Sunday morning

Dear friend,

You mentioned last week that the new job had you a little on edge, and I've been wondering how the first days went. Did the people turn out kinder than the nerves promised?

I made tea and thought I'd write before the day got loud. Tell me everything when you can.

yours, always

Most readers pick Weekly

$17 a month, and the first 7 days are free

How it works

Three minutes to set up. Then just wait for the mail.

1

Tell us about you

A few friendly questions. Your name, what's going on in life, what you like talking about.

2

Pick your rhythm

Weekly, every two weeks, or as often as you like. Your pen pal sticks to that schedule. No spam, no app pinging you.

3

Read & write back

Letters land in your inbox. Reply whenever you like. Your pen pal picks up right where you left off.

Why it feels different

Letters you look forward to, not another app to check.

They learn who you are

From your letters. They remember what you tell them, so the next letter is written for you and no one else.

They keep up with the world

Bring any subject you like, this week's news or the book on your nightstand. They'll have something to say about it.

Slow on purpose

No feed, no notifications fighting for your attention. Just a letter you can sit with, from someone glad to hear from you.

You're in charge

You shape who writes to you.

Tell us a little when you start, and change it whenever you like.

Who writes

Would you rather hear from a man or a woman? Up to you.

How warm

Close and affectionate, or composed and more professional. Your call.

How long

From a short note to a proper long letter. Whatever you enjoy reading.

How old they are

A pen pal in their thirties or one who's seen a bit more of life. Their age shapes their stories.

Where you live

So when they mention the weather or the season, it matches what's outside your window.

What you love

Books, work, your dog, the trip you're planning. Tell them what to ask about.

"I noticed that somewhere in a life full of work and plans, you make room to go underwater. Scuba is such a telling thing to love. So tell me, is it the quiet you are after down there, or something else?"

Eli, to a reader in Istanbul

FemaleWarmShort

"I made tea and thought I'd write before the day got loud. You seemed quieter in your last letter. No need to explain it, only know that I'm here, and I'm listening."

Mara, to a reader in Toronto

"You said the city still feels new after two years. I keep thinking about that. Which street finally started to feel like yours, and what was it that turned a stranger's corner into your own?"

Eli, to a reader in Berlin

FemaleProfessionalLong

"The book you mentioned has been on my mind. You put down a whole life in one sentence and moved on, and I did not want to move on. Tell me more when you write, there is no rush."

Kind words

People write back to us, too.

From readers who found a friend in their inbox.

"After my husband passed, the evenings got very long. Mara's letters give me something to look forward to. Someone out there knows how my week went and actually asks about it."

"It felt strange at first, writing to someone I had never met. Three months in, Eli knows more about my life than most of my friends do. I didn't expect that."

"I tell her things I wouldn't say out loud. Stuff I'd never post anywhere. The reply always comes, calm and kind, and she never makes me feel silly for sharing it."

"I was skeptical, I'll be honest. Then Mara remembered my sister's surgery and asked how the recovery was going. I read that letter twice and cried a little the second time."

"I got it for my mom, she lives alone now. She prints every letter and keeps them in a drawer by the kettle. Sometimes she reads bits to me over the phone."

Good questions

Things people ask

What do they write about?

You. Your week, what's on your mind, and whatever else you feel like sharing. The more you tell them, the more specific the letters get.

Is it written by real people?

Yes. A real person writes and reviews every letter before it reaches you. AI helps in the background, keeping track of what you've shared so nothing slips. What you end up with is a pen pal who pays attention and always has time to write back.

Do I have to write back?

Never. Some people reply to every letter, others just like reading them. Both are fine. Your pen pal writes on your schedule, not the other way around.

Can I change how often I get letters?

Anytime. Move between fortnightly, weekly, and unlimited whenever you like, or pause and come back later. There's no lock-in. For the full picture, we've written up how the subscription works.

How quickly will I hear back?

Your first letter arrives within 24 to 48 hours of joining, during business hours. After that, letters follow the rhythm you chose. And if you write to us with a question, a real person reads it and gets back to you within 24 to 48 hours, during business hours too.

Is this private?

Yes. Your letters are yours. We never sell your data or share what you write, and you can delete everything whenever you want.

Can I send one to someone as a gift?

Yes. It makes a lovely gift for someone far away or living alone. Pick a plan, then write to us with who it's for.
